Quivan's "Out West" writing project

Under construction.

This project started as a realization of characters and their stories which I've had ideas for, and now I've decided to upload them here! Content subject to change, as the story is very much still being developed.

The bulk of this story takes place in the United States during the 1990s, ranging from California to Utah.

In this timeline, nuclear weapons never gain traction as deterrents, but rather as a weapon to be utilized in battle. The Soviet Union is still intact. The Warsaw Pact is still in place. The Cold War rages on. (Though I haven't uploaded much of that part yet!)

2:59am over the Great Salt Lake. A local radio station is broadcasting ordinary techno. Then, as three rolls around, the D.J. knows to pause his commentary between sets. Silence for few short seconds, interrupted by a distinct high-frequency chirp.

A signal.

The same one that is given to a U.S.S.R. satellite flying over Utah at seven thousand miles per hour when the clock strikes noon in Moscow. This is to tell the satellite it's tuned correctly and data is ready to receive. The D.J. plays the next set. For the next few hours, the station will broadcast encrypted messages directly to Soviet intelligence - drowned out by the sound of techno.
